Summary:

Facebook's global network comprised of cutting-edge platforms is looking for a Optical Engineer to join the Core engineering team. This team is responsible for designing, implementing and supporting one of the world’s largest and complex networks. As an optical engineer you will have a unique opportunity to shape the future network to accommodate our explosive growth as well as internal product requirements. This position is full-time and located in our Hong Kong office.

Required Skills:

  1. Work with various teams to understand FB's network, user base, performance constraints and growth requirements

  2. Work with procurement and other teams to devise strategies on hardware and network acquisitions around the globe

  3. Provide network planning and engineering support for a large scale network design

  4. Evaluate deployment architectures and translate them to vendor requirements/roadmaps

  5. Planning and commissioning of new metro, long-haul and submarine nodes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Experience working in optical engineering or design roles on an ISP- or enterprise-level network.

  2. Experience working with CDC ROADM, coherent transponders and flex-grid operation optical networks.

  3. Awareness of extended-reach modulation techniques for ultra-long haul and submarine applications.

  4. Preferred knowledge of IPoWDM, IPoOTN, and other hybrid packet over WDM architectures

  5. Experience with the rollout of large DWDM networks

  6. Good working knowledge of IP networking fundamentals
