Arup Digital Design Services Leader in NA, Hong Kong

Currently we are looking for a capable and independent individual for the following position as part of the multi-disciplinary team.


We are looking for a seasoned digital design professional to lead the creation of analytic platforms, services and products that can be deployed and customized across multiple sectors, as a core part of our digital business and the data analytics initiatives. We are in the process of developing prototypes for these platforms (code, algorithms and visualisation tools), which the individual’s expertise will help expedite, both in terms of technical development and how we take these services and products to market.

The individual will be focused on assisting on winning new works, leading and overseeing the delivery of digital inputs for internal and external clients within a wide range of projects sectors. He/She should have a good grounding in the data industry, with a focus on managing and delivering data driven projects. The core aspects of this position will include:

• Provide digital strategy and roadmaps, including structuring a program and implementation plan to enable the firm to take advantage of the opportunities that digital technologies offer

• Understand digital ecosystem, identify and prioritize the most relevant digital technologies according to their maturity level and business and market needs

• Advise how to organize and adjust the current business models (e.g. data-driven design and IoT advice for smart buildings, smart cities, etc.) by extracting value added data in response to new opportunities and challenge

• Oversee and orchestrate the delivery of high-quality technical output. These might well include spatial data, analytics and dashboard products, but they could also include strategy, process redesign, and system architecture and technology design output; and

• To be responsible, with support from the wider team, for managing and delivering digital technology tools for the projects; and mentoring, training and motivation of staff

• Input to bids, tenders, and conditions of engagement, and control significant investment spending in the bid/tendering process

• Develop the existing relationships and business opportunities within the built environment

Qualifications & Experience required:

• Degree in related discipline

• A Master Degree or post graduate education would be preferred but not essential

• Corporate membership of relevant professional institution(s) in computer engineering, industrial engineering, project management, surveyor or equivalent

• At least 12 years of relevant experience with practical experience in using digital technologies and technique for iterative design and engineering

• Experience in distributed data architectures and digital application, and the development and implementation of analytics / insight propositions

• Effective team leader within data analytics projects and as a design / project management leader within multidisciplinary engineering design and construction industry is advantage

• Experience in leading system architect with track record in software engineering best practice

• Advanced data analytics techniques and technologies is essential, as well as strong competency in one or more of the following: Building Information Modelling (BIM)/GIS/Spatial/Software Development and Visualisation

• Good understanding of consulting

• Strong commercial and business development experience

• Enthusiasm for problem solving

• Good client facing and customer relationship management skills and experience

• Commercially aware, both project and business focused, with strong commercial management skills in administering project controls change process and financial forecasting on a monthly basis

• Programme and delivery focused with effective planning and organising skills

• Built environment experience, or at least a strong interest and desire to work in this market

• Experience of staff development, recruitment and mentoring

• Experience of Open Innovation / Open Source development

• Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese. Putonghua would be an advantage but not essential
