The External Communications Manager for S&P Global Market Intelligence in Hong Kong will manage SPGMI’s external communications activities throughout APAC, reporting into the Head of External Communications for MI globally based in Washington D.C. and will work in close alignment with teammates in New York and London, as well as our strategic communications teammates in the region—all part of the unified global communications team at S&P.

You will be a member of the SPGMI external communications team. You will also work on regional and global projects as needed. You will provide back-up support to the other members of the team who are based in Hong Kong and at times- other targeted APAC countries.

The Impact:

Hong Kong is a key global hub for S&P Global Market Intelligence and S&P Global at large. Our presence in China, Singapore, India, Pakistan and Australia, among other APAC countries is well-established, and we have a big growth opportunity for our external communications in this region. You will get to be part of the numerous plans which are underway to strategically support and expand our thought-leadership position in the region and will be involved in larger global initiatives. You will also manage and grow strategic press relationships in the region on behalf of Market Intelligence, resulting in increased data and analytical citations in target press outlets. This is a highly visible role within SPGMI and the company at large.

  • Manage media relations activities, including developing relationships with members of the media, drafting messages, coaching spokespeople, organizing events, pitching stories, garnering data citations and handling inquiries.

  • Strategically promote thought leadership initiatives and data, including pitching bylined articles in tier 1 publications and key trade press.

  • Develop and lead outreach plans and media activities in APAC, including occasional travel as needed.

    • Work closely with SPGMI’s marketing team and key thought leaders - group leaders to develop comprehensive strategic outreach plans for key initiatives; ensure appropriate PR strategies are aligned with marketing activities.
  • Lead MI’s PR agency to promote spokespeople and thought leadership in the region and increase the overall level of press visibility for the Division.

  • Work on ad hoc projects as needed

  • Bachelor degree in Communications, Finance or a related subject

  • 4-6 years of relevant media relations experience in PR agencies on financial services accounts or financial services institutions

    • Understanding the unique local environment when planning and implementing communications activities; adapting regional - global strategies to suit local situation
  • Confident to work with numerous internal senior stakeholders in Hong Kong and globally

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills

  • Strategic thinking, strong execution, teamwork and flexibility

  • Able to deal with complex and sensitive media inquiries

  • Strong professional relationships with financial journalists
