ESPN, Inc. Commercial Manager, Japan/Korea in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

Commercial Manager has accountability for Japan and Korea's program sales budget.

Responsibilities :

  • Grow and cultivate key relationships with Terrestrial, Pay television, digital platforms and advertisers across Japan, Korea to advance business goals and ensure ESPN's premiere position with customers

  • Develop and deliver strategic pitches to clients that encompass any/all areas of ESPN content and products to drive growth, including but not limited to brand licenses, output deals, local versions of ESPN digital products, marketing and ad sales

  • Specific focus on developing Japan and Korea

  • Responsibility for North Asia Program Sales revenue stream - across FTA, Pay and digital

  • Formulation and implementation of the sales strategy for TV program licensing across all distribution platforms including Terrestrial, Pay TV windows and digital partners

  • Think laterally about how ESPN can extend our business partnerships into new areas with current and potential partners

  • In conjunction with ESPN APAC Regional Management manage ESPN North Asia rights portfolio - includes current portfolio assessment, recommendations on improving/expanding the portfolio, input on tender processes

  • Communicate effectively within all levels of the organization, including the preparation and presentation of timely and accurate information for management (inclduing internal presentations)

Basic Qualifications :

Experience and Qualifications:

  • BA required

  • 8 - 10 years experience

  • Preferably working in Japan, Korea media business - across sales into platforms, at a platform or sports agency

  • Experience in variety of commercial situations: program sales deals, rights deals and/or ad sales

Skills Required:

  • Understanding of Japan, Korea media business

  • Contacts/network within Japan, Korea platforms (FTA, pay, digital) - at middle management or above level

  • Excellent communicator, with strong influencing skills and the ability to work with peers and senior executives locally and on a remote basis to effectively educate about markets, evangelize deals

  • Passionate about sports

  • A passion for putting together great client pitches - story-telling and hero'ing the client

  • Charismatic with entrepreneurial zeal and the ability to work in a lean, driven environment

  • A team player: comfort and ease in collaborating with internal stakeholders

  • Solid track record in operational and commercially focused leadership roles within consumer-facing, international companies

  • Personally credible and authoritative, able to provide leadership and give confidence across the organization internationally

  • Strong understanding of sports media rights and agencies landscape

  • Solid concept of deal structures and media contracts

  • Jananese, Korean language skills a plus
